The Illinois State Fair is one of the state’s largest annual public events and a major celebration of Illinois agriculture, industry, entertainment and achievement. The fair brings together agricultural producers, exhibitors, livestock participants, businesses, performers and visitors from across the state and beyond. Its programme includes livestock shows, competitive exhibits, agricultural displays, food experiences, entertainment and family attractions.
One of the fair’s best-known traditions is the Butter Cow, a life-sized sculpture made by hand using approximately 500 pounds of unsalted butter. Visitors can see the sculpture in the Dairy Building, which also features dairy products such as milk, cheese and ice cream, along with interactive displays and photo opportunities. The fair combines agricultural education, competitions, commercial exhibits and entertainment in a large public celebration.
