31st Annual Honolulu Festival

The 31st Annual Honolulu Festival is a three-day Pacific Rim cultural celebration in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, scheduled for March 5–7, 2027. Built around cultural exchange between Hawaiʻi, Japan, and communities across the Pacific Rim, it combines live performances, exhibitions, food and crafts, a Waikīkī parade, and other public festivities.

2027 theme and purpose

The 2027 sub-theme is “Celebrating Our Legacy, Bridging Generations Through Culture.” It reflects the festival’s broader mission of promoting cultural understanding, cooperation, and harmony while emphasizing the transmission of traditions between generations; organizers describe the weekend as both a celebration of the festival’s history and a continuation of Pacific cultural exchange.

What’s happening

The published 2027 program includes stage performances, a craft fair and Ennichi corner, food offerings, a Japanese Film Festival, Japan Product Bazaar, Honolulu Art Market, Sake & Food Fest, and a Maui Mikoshi exhibition. Most daytime activities are concentrated on Saturday and Sunday, with programming beginning around 10 a.m.; organizers note that schedules remain subject to change.

Grand Parade

A major finale is the Grand Parade, scheduled for Sunday, March 7, from 4:30–7:30 p.m. The festival traditionally brings cultural performers, marching bands, hula and dance groups, floats, and other participants down Kalākaua Avenue through Waikīkī, making the parade one of the most visible parts of the weekend.

Why it stands out

The Honolulu Festival dates to 1995, making 2027 its 31st edition after several decades of cultural programming in Hawaiʻi. Rather than focusing on a single tradition, its identity comes from bringing Hawaiʻi and diverse Pacific Rim cultures into the same public celebration through music, dance, art, film, food, crafts, and community participation.
