DESCRIPTION:The Alaska Bald Eagle Festival is an annual wildlife and nature
  celebration held in Haines\, in the Chilkat Valley. The festival coincide
 s with the seasonal gathering of bald eagles along the Chilkat River\, whe
 re they feed on a late run of chum salmon. The surrounding Alaska Chilkat 
 Bald Eagle Preserve provides an important habitat for these birds and is r
 ecognised for its large concentrations of bald eagles.\n\nThe festival off
 ers visitors opportunities to observe eagles in their natural environment 
 while learning about their behaviour\, habitat\, conservation and the ecol
 ogical importance of the Chilkat River. Guided field trips take participan
 ts to viewing areas along the river\, accompanied by knowledgeable guides 
 and naturalists.\n\nThe programme includes educational presentations\, pho
 tography workshops\, storytelling\, art displays\, family activities and s
 pecial events. The American Bald Eagle Foundation hosts activities that in
 troduce visitors to birds of prey and wildlife conservation. Visitors can 
 also learn about the foundation's resident ambassador birds and its work i
 n environmental education.\n\nThe opening ceremony includes local music\, 
 traditional cultural performances and guest presentations. The Sunday prog
 ramme includes a community pancake breakfast and a festival closing celebr
 ation at the Haines Borough Public Library. The event is particularly attr
 active to wildlife photographers\, birdwatchers\, nature enthusiasts\, fam
