SUMMARY:Christmas by Candlelight 2026
DESCRIPTION:Christmas by Candlelight 2026\nChristmas by Candlelight 2026 is
Old Sturbridge Village’s annual holiday celebration\, transforming its
1830s New England setting with candlelight\, Christmas trees\, music\, his
 torical demonstrations\, seasonal food\, and horse-drawn rides. The 2026 e
dition runs on select dates from November 27 through December 27 and combi
nes festive spectacle with the history of Christmas traditions.\nThe exper
ience\nThe event is designed as an indoor-and-outdoor evening stroll throu
gh the historic Village. Visitors can follow the illuminated Christmas Tre
 e Trail\, meet Santa\, hear stories and live music\, warm up by a bonfire\
, take horse-drawn carryall rides\, and see traditional crafts including b
lacksmithing\, pottery\, and tin work\; food and seasonal drinks are avail
able for purchase.\nHistory behind the holidays\nA distinctive feature is
the historical interpretation behind familiar customs. Costumed historians
explore how traditions such as Christmas trees\, stockings\, toys\, gift-
 giving\, gingerbread\, nutcrackers\, and carols developed\, rather than pr
esenting Christmas as though it were universally celebrated in 1830s New E
ngland. The featured international tradition for 2026 is Christmas in Swed
en.\n2026 dates and hours\nRegular event nights are November 27–29\; Dec
 ember 4–6\, 11–13\, 18–20\, 23\, 26\, and 27\, generally from 2:00
 –8:00 p.m. Special Candlelight Thursdays take place December 10 and 17 f
 rom 4:00–8:00 p.m.\, with $12 admission\; December 6 is designated ASL N
ight. Tickets are date-specific\, with timed arrival blocks used to spread
out entry.\nWhat makes it distinctive\nChristmas by Candlelight is more t
han a conventional holiday-lights display because the living-history setti
ng is part of the attraction: historic buildings\, interpreters\, working
crafts\, music\, food\, and changing Christmas traditions are woven into t
he evening. The museum advises visitors to expect substantial walking\, dr
ess for winter weather\, and plan for the program to continue in light rai
n or snow\; free parking is available at the Village.
