SUMMARY:King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade – Kauaʻi
DESCRIPTION:King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade – Kauaʻi 2027\nThe
King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade – Kauaʻi is an annual Hawaii
an cultural commemoration in Līhuʻe honoring King Kamehameha I and his l
egacy. The 2027 parade is scheduled for Saturday\, June 12\, followed imme
diately by a community hoʻolauleʻa on the Historic County Building lawn.
\nParade and celebration\nThe floral parade is scheduled for 9:00–10:00
a.m.\, beginning at Vidinha Stadium and traveling up Rice Street to the Hi
storic County Building. The King Kamehameha Celebration Hoʻolauleʻa foll
ows from 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. on the Historic County Building lawn\; the
state notes that dates\, times\, and locations remain subject to change.\
nHawaiian cultural traditions\nThe Kauaʻi celebration is part of the stat
ewide observance of King Kamehameha Day\, established by Kamehameha V to h
onor his grandfather\, Kamehameha I\; the first observance took place on J
une 11\, 1872. State Foundation on Culture and the Arts Kauaʻi's recent c
elebrations have combined the procession with Hawaiian food\, crafts\, cul
tural demonstrations\, and entertainment\, making the event both a formal
 commemoration and a community gathering.\nThe visual centerpiece\nFloral a
dornment and equestrian tradition give the celebration much of its distinc
tive character. Recent Kauaʻi editions have featured flower-draped pāʻ
 ū riders\, hula hālau\, marching units\, community organizations\, and o
ther participants proceeding through central Līhuʻe\, reflecting traditi
ons seen across the broader King Kamehameha celebrations.\nWhy the 2027 ev
ent is notable\nThe 2027 celebration falls on June 12\, the day after the
official June 11 King Kamehameha Day holiday\, and shares the year's state
wide theme\, “E waele a e kanu hou!” — “Remove the weeds and plant
our own!” Unlike the much larger Honolulu parade\, Kauaʻi's version ha
s a compact\, community-centered route through Līhuʻe and transitions di
 rectly into the four-hour hoʻolauleʻa\, emphasizing Hawaiian culture\, g
 athering\, and local participation.
