Event Type

The 12th IAFOR International Conference on Education – Hawaii

The 12th IAFOR International Conference on Education – Hawaii (IICE2027) is an international, interdisciplinary academic conference taking place in Honolulu from January 8–11, 2027, with in-person and online participation. Organized by IAFOR and held in partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, it brings together education researchers, educators, policymakers, practitioners, and doctoral students.

Format and setting

IICE2027 is based at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center and Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu and is part of IAFOR’s North American Conference Series. It runs concurrently with the 7th IAFOR International Conference on Arts & Humanities in Hawaii (IICAH2027); registration for either conference permits delegates to attend sessions from both, creating a particularly interdisciplinary program.

Research focus

The call for papers is intentionally broad, with streams covering Teaching & Learning, Educational Structures, Community & Society, Language & Culture, Psychology, Mind & Brain, and Innovation & Technology, plus special themes. IAFOR’s wider 2025–2029 themes—technology and AI, humanity and human intelligence, global citizenship and education for peace, and leadership—provide additional cross-disciplinary framing.

Presenting and publishing

Abstracts are double-blind peer reviewed, with decisions generally returned within four weeks. The final abstract deadline is September 24, 2026, presenter registration is due November 5, 2026, and full papers intended for the conference proceedings are due February 9, 2027; IAFOR targets publication of the proceedings for March 26. The proceedings are open access and receive DOIs, but IAFOR explicitly notes that its conference proceedings are not peer-reviewed or Scopus-indexed.

What distinguishes it

The conference emphasizes international and interdisciplinary exchange rather than a narrowly specialized education subfield. IAFOR reports that the previous year’s Hawaii gathering drew 366 delegates from 46 countries, and IICE has been held in Hawaii since 2016; the joint education/arts-and-humanities format also allows participants to move between disciplinary sessions, plenaries, and forums.
