The Indianapolis 500, presented by Gainbridge, is one of the world’s most recognised motor-racing events and the centrepiece of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s annual Month of May activities. The 2027 race is scheduled to be the 111th running of the event. The build-up includes practice sessions, qualifying weekend, Carb Day and Legends Day, giving spectators several opportunities to experience the racing atmosphere before the main race.

During practice, teams and drivers prepare their cars and work towards competitive race performance. Qualifying weekend determines the starting positions and final field for the race. Carb Day combines the final practice session with the Wienie 500, Pit Stop Competition and a concert. Legends Day offers autograph sessions and a public drivers’ meeting. The main event brings drivers together for 200 laps over 500 miles at the historic Speedway.
