The Montana Folk Festival is one of the largest free outdoor music festivals in the Northwest. Held in the historic Uptown district of Butte, the three-day celebration brings together traditional musicians, dancers, craftspeople and cultural performers from across the United States and beyond.
The festival features multiple outdoor stages with continuous performances representing a wide range of musical traditions, including folk, bluegrass, blues, gospel, Latin music, reggae and world music. Visitors can enjoy traditional dance performances, cultural demonstrations, storytelling and educational workshops.
The event also includes ethnic and festival food vendors, a Family Area, and two traditional arts marketplaces. The Montana Traditions Arts Market and First Peoples’ Market showcase handmade crafts and traditional artwork, including work by Native American artists.
The festival is free to attend and provides an opportunity for visitors to experience different cultural traditions while exploring Butte’s historic mining district and its distinctive surroundings.
The 2027 festival is scheduled for July 9–11 in Butte, Montana.
