IGNITE Workshop 2027

IGNITE 2027—Individual Growth & New Ideas Through EPSCoR/INBRE—is an annual professional-development workshop organized by Alaska EPSCoR in partnership with Alaska INBRE. The fifth workshop is scheduled for January 8, 2027, on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus, bringing together researchers, faculty, staff, and students.

Format and audience

The one-day event uses separate tracks tailored to faculty and researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, and staff, rather than giving every attendee the same program. IGNITE is designed around presentations and discussion sessions that develop professional skills while creating connections across the University of Alaska research community; the broader annual program also welcomes UA affiliates and external research partners.

2027 program

Announced discussion topics for 2027 may include the state and federal funding landscape, resilience, translational research, and communicating with colleagues. That mix reflects IGNITE’s practical focus: previous editions have addressed subjects including mentoring, science communication, grant writing, presentations, career development, and research practices.

Organizers

The workshop is a collaboration between Alaska EPSCoR and Alaska INBRE, two research-capacity-building programs with overlapping interests in workforce and professional development. Alaska EPSCoR’s strategic plan describes IGNITE as an annual activity with tracks for research professionals, staff, and students, with its location rotating among University of Alaska campuses.

Registration and travel support

Registration is open until the workshop fills, and EPSCoR and INBRE cover registration fees. Limited travel support is also available; applicants seeking that support need to register by November 13, 2026 to be considered. The event itself is listed as an all-day workshop on January 8, 2027, at UAF.
